Lions selected ninth in SAC preseason polls
The Mars Hill men's and women's cross country teams were selected ninth in the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Cross Country preseason polls, as release Thursday morning.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) - Queens was voted as the favorite to win the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Men's Cross Country title for the third year in a row, the league office announced today.
The Royals, who have won three straight SCA Men's Cross Country Championships, received 12 first place votes and tallied 156 points in the poll.
Wingate, No. 2 in the poll, snagged the lone remaining first-place nod and collected 138 points.
Anderson came in at No. 3 in the poll with 135 points, followed by Catawba at No. 4 with 121 points.
Lenoir-Rhyne claimed fifth in the preseason poll with 118 points. Tusculum earned the No. 6 spot in the poll with 99 points, followed by Lincoln Memorial at No. 7 with 89 points.
Carson-Newman took the No. 8 spot with 81 points. Mars Hill was No. 9 in the poll, earning 60 points from the coaches.
In the No. 10 spot was Newberry with 55 points, while Limestone (47 points), Coker (39 points), and UVA Wise (32 points) wrapped up the preseason ranking at No. 11, No. 12, and No. 13, respectively.
In addition to the preseason coaches poll, the SAC also released its 2021 Men's Cross Country Runners to Watch list. Below is the full list of runners to watch by team during the 2021 season.
The 2021 season will get underway on Friday, September 3.
