Mars Hill opens second season on road at Lander
The Mars Hill acrobatics & tumbling team (0-1) opened their sophomore season on the road versus Lander (1-0) Monday evening.
GREENWOOD, S.C. - The Mars Hill acrobatics & tumbling team (0-1) opened their sophomore season on the road versus Lander (1-0) Monday evening, falling by a score of 238.390 to 231.415.
In the compulsory event, the Lions scored highest in the toss heat, recording a 9.70 out of 10. Out of the four heats, Lander recorded a combined 36.80 to Mars Hill's 32.30, recording three heats over a 9.0.
The Lions took the acro event, scoring 23.85 over the three heats to the Bearcats 23.50. In the pyramid, Lander outscored the Lions 28.30 to 26.60 with all three heats scoring 9.35 or better.
Returning from the half, Mars Hill claimed the toss event by a score of 25.40 to 22.65.
Lander led 88.60 to 82.75 after the first three events.
Lander took the tumbling event, topping the Lions in all six passes with a high of 9.0 in the 6-element pass. They totaled a score of 48.750 to Mars Hill's 43.875 in the penultimate event of the night.
To close out the meet, Mars Hill won the team event with a score of 79.39, besting Lander by one point, however, was not enough to claim the meet win.
The Bearcats topped Mars Hill 149.790 to 148.665 in the second half.
The Lions return to the mats on Thursday, February 23 in their home opener versus Emmanuel. The meet is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
