BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Mars Hill acrobatics & tumbling team (1-3, 1-3 CC) was defeated by King (1-3, 1-3 CC) by a score of 249.180-243.180 Sunday afternoon on the road.
The Tornado took the Compulsory event, scoring 33.95 over the four heats that included a 9.6 in the pyramid and 9.25 in the toss. Mars Hill chipped into their lead in the Acro event, narrowly outscoring King 28.05-27.35. The Lions recorded a 9.7 in the seven element and a 9.6 in the five element.
King, in the Pyramid event, scored a 9.8 in the open heat; their highest score of the afternoon. At the half, the Tornado led 89.55-83.65.
The teams, in the second half, were separated by 0.1 points at the end of the Toss, Tumbling, and Team events. While the Lions took the Toss by 0.05 points, King responded in the Tumbling event, outscoring Mars Hill 50.95-49.25.
Finally, in the team event, Mars Hill scored an 85.08 to King's 83.53, but the first half deficit remained.
The Lions return home on Thursday, February 29 when they host Bluefield State. The meet is set for a 6 p.m. start.
