Baseball Splits with Pfeiffer
The Lions baseball team split a double-header with Pfeiffer Saturday afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Lions baseball team split a double-header with Pfeiffer Saturday afternoon at Joe Ferebee Field. Mars Hill won the first game 4-3 while the Falcons won the nightcap, 7-5. Both teams took their season record to 1-1 overall.
Game 1: Lions 4, Falcons 3
Logan Conley led the Lions at the plate in game one going 2-4 with the same number of doubles and a RBI. Christian Stampler also went 2-4 with a RBI while Evan Rogers was 1-3 with a double, a RBI and a run scored. Drayden Williams picked up the win (1-0) throwing 4.2 innings in relief. He allowed no runs and scattered three hits. Alec Bivens threw the final 2.2 innings to pick up his first save on the year.
Conley doubled in the first inning to plate Rogers and give Mars Hill a 1-0 lead. The Falcons then scored three runs on six hits in the second inning to take a 3-1 advantage. The Lions tied the game in the third frame after Dylan Powers scored on a Pfeiffer error and then Stampler singled up the middle to drive in Hunter Merrill. Rogers doubled down the left field line in the fifth inning to score Merrill and account for the game winning run. Solid pitching down the stretch enabled the Lions to win game one by a score of 4-3.
Game 2: Falcons 7, Lions 5
Conley went 2-4 with a RBI in game two followed by Rogers who went 1-3 with a RBI and two runs scored. Zac Brown suffered the loss (0-1) for Mars Hill on the mound.
Conley singled in the first inning to advance Rogers to the plate and give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Mars Hill went up 3-0 in the second inning when a Rogers' single advanced Brett Brubaker to the plate and then Rogers later scored on a sacrifice fly by Dalton Eisenbath. Pfeiffer put the game away in the third inning scoring six runs on four hits highlighted by a three RBI double from Ryne Stanley. After adding a single run in the fourth inning, Mars Hill trimmed the deficit to 7-5 in their sixth at-bat after Eisenbath doubled to left center field to score Matt Honeycutt and Jordan Hicks. That was as close as the Lions would get.
The teams will conclude the three-game series tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
