Rogers Named ABCA/Rawlings Southeast Region First Team member
Evan Rogers has added another accolade to his post season awards for his performance during the 2016 season. He has been selected to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Southeast Region first team.
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Evan Rogers has added another accolade to his post season awards for his performance during the 2016 season. He has been selected to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Southeast Region first team.
Rogers, is a senior shortstop from Kernersville, N.C. His 19 homeruns on the season set a new Mars Hill record while also ranking first in the conference. Evan was also able to lead the team and conference in runs (66) and slugging percentage (.855). A .390 batting average was tops among the Blue and Gold as well as a career-high 55 runs batted in. Rogers' most impressive game came in a 10-8 win over Wingate on February 28, belting three dingers and tallying six RBIs.
Besides being selected to the D2SIDA team, Rogers was the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, named to the 2016 NCAA Division II National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Southeast Region first team and was a first team All-SAC selection.
Mars Hill finished the 2016 campaign with a 30-18 overall record, the most wins since the 2006 team collected 32 wins.
The 2016 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region teams for both NCAA Div. II as well as Regional Players of the Year have been announced. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by each division's ABCA All-America Committee.

ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans and Gold Glove winners will be announced for NCAA Div. III on the evening of Thursday, May 26 and NCAA Div. II on Monday, May 30, 2016.

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 8,200 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth. The 73rd annual ABCA Convention will be held Jan. 5-8, 2017 in Anaheim, California.
