Lions open up action at Winthrop Adidas University Invitational
The Mars Hill men's track and field team partook in the opening day of the Winthrop University Invitational on Friday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Mars Hill men's track and field team partook in the opening day of the Winthrop University Invitational on Friday.
In the field events, Kenan Foxx and Tyler Holloway placed 23rd overall in the hammer throw and shot put, respectively. Foxx threw the hammer a distance of 26.50m (86'11.50"). Holloway, in the shot put, recorded a mark of 11.29m (37'0.50"). Bryan Smith placed 15th in the long jump with a mark of 6.31m (20'8.50"). Corey Whaley finished 27th with a distance of 5.64m (18'6").
Transitioning to the track, Mars Hill had six runners compete in the Townplace Suites 100 meter. Sophomore Cameron France topped all Lions with a 22nd place finish, running a time of 11.12. Nicholas Izquierdo finished 30th with a mark of 11.24. Malik Frost, David Elkins, Smith and Whaley rounded out the Lions competitors with 47th, 49th, 50th and 54th place finishes, respectively.
Competing in the Fairfield Inn 200 meter, France placed 16th with a mark of 22.38. Elkins and Frost placed 44th and 46th, respectively. Elkins and Whaley also ran in the Render Hill 400 meter. Elkins placed 27th, running a time of 51.73. Whaley finished 46th.
In the Trevor Beesley 5000 meter, Noah Allison finished third overall with a mark of 15:07.41. Also competing in the race for the Lions were James Benik, Bryan Barbee and Nick Resor, who placed 31st, 41st and 42nd, respectively.
