Women's Soccer Loses at Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. – Mars Hill lost 4-0 to the Bulldogs in South Atlantic women's soccer action Saturday evening at the Wingate Soccer Complex. The Lions fell to 0-10 on the season and 0-5 in the league. Wingate improved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the league.
Jade Montgomery opened the scoring in the 11th minute scoring an unassisted goal after stealing the ball from the Lions' defense. Five minutes later (16:27) Brooke Howell scored on a through ball from Naomi Matley. The teams carried that scored into the locker room at the intermission.
Howell then made the score 3-0 in favor of the home team eight minutes into the second half on a give and go from the right side of the box from a pass from Matley.
Wingate took a four-goal lead with nine minutes remaining in regulation when Montgomery served one in front of the goal, where a diving Leonard tucked it inside the post.
The Bulldogs outshot Mars Hill 28-3 on the night, holding a 13-2 edge in shots on goal. Ashlyn Hardie had two saves for Wingate playing 86.05 minutes in goal. Tori Stajduhar collected eight saves for the Lions playing all 90 minutes in the net for the Lions.
Mars Hill will host SAC foe Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday, October 8. Match time is slated for 5 p.m.
