Second Half Flurry Lifts Eagles to Victory
A quartet of second half goals erased a 1-0 Mars Hill lead as Carson-Newman earned a 4-1 victory over the Lions on Wednesday.

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN.- A quartet of second half goals erased a 1-0 Mars Hill lead as Carson-Newman earned a 4-1 victory over the Lions in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday. Carson-Newman improves to 3-10 and 1-8 in league play, while Mars Hill drops to 0-14-1 and 0-9 in the conference.
Rachel Blong's second goal of the season gave Mars Hill a 1-0 advantage at the 27:32 mark of the first half and was also the only scoring action of the period. Carson-Newman evened the score just over three minutes into the second half on Camilla Olsson's second goal of the season. The Eagles scored what proved to be the game-winner less than 10 minutes later as Helen Seed finished a ball off of a Gabrielle Gianeselli corner kick for a 2-1 lead. The Eagles added to their lead in the 64th minute thanks to a Nora Logan tally and wrapped up the scoring on a Chelsea Jordan penalty kick in the 89th minute.
Carson-Newman outshot the Lions 22-9, with 16 shots on goal compared to four for Mars Hill. The Eagles also held a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks. Taylor Hammond made three saves for the hosts, while Maslyn Greene stopped 12 shots for the Lions.
Mars Hill will play the final road game of the 2014 season on Saturday, traveling to Brevard for a 1 p.m. start.
