Mars Hill falls to No. 2 LMU
The Mars Hill men's basketball team (11-14, 9-10 SAC) was defeated by No. 2 Lincoln Memorial (26-1, 19-0 SAC) by a score of 98-69 Wednesday evening.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (11-14, 9-10 SAC) was defeated by No. 2 Lincoln Memorial (26-1, 19-0 SAC) by a score of 98-69 Wednesday evening.
The Lions clawed their way to within two, 18-16, in the final 10 minutes of the first half before a Railsplitters' 8-0 run boosted their lead to 10 points. Lincoln Memorial would go on to lead by as many as 17, leading 43-26 with just over two minutes to play in the frame. The Lions ended the half trailing by 15 as Courvoiser McCauley and Devin Whitfield each recorded 14 points. Javonte Cooke led the Lions with 12 points.
Mars Hill found themselves down by 22 with under 13 minutes to play before going on a 12-0 run to get the Mars Hill faithful fully behind the squad. Jamal Bryant had four points while Trey Belin and Ja'Shawn Brooks each netted a three-pointer. The raucous crowd was quieted shortly after as the Railsplitters responded with an 8-0 run to rebuild their advantage.
Following a McCauley jumper, Lincoln Memorial boosted their lead to 26 points. They would lead by as many as 30 points in the final minutes of play. McCauley ended the contest with a game-high 25 points followed by Whitfield's 22. Cameron Henry ended the contest with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double.
Cooke led the Lions with 22 points and added five rebounds. Brooks added 16 while Bryant chipped in eight and collected a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Lions take to the road on Saturday, February 22 when they face Anderson in a crucial South Atlantic Conference contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
