FLORENCE, S.C.-- Mars Hill's volleyball team fell to USC-Aiken in four sets Saturday morning at the Smith University Center.
Aiken won by scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22. The Pacers were led by Leah Rodgers with 10 kills, while Shawn Hotson added nine kills and 19 digs. Marissa Wixson notched a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs for MHU. Maggie Murphy recorded 40 digs, which was only the sixth time in school-history a Lion has recorded 40 or more digs. Mars Hill fell to 1-2 on the season. USC Aiken improves to 2-1.
The Pacers spread the ball around offensively, with six players recording seven kills or more. Taylor Stratton, Endea Ellison and Hannah Tierney each had eight kills, while Ashley Diedrich added seven. USCA hit .215 on the day and recorded nine team blocks.
Regan Macomson added 11 kills on a .280 attack percentage for MHU. Hillary Gambrell recorded 10 kills and seven digs, while freshman Hannah Rowe had the best game offensively of her young Lion career with nine kills. Hannah Wilson added a season-high 25 assists. MHU hit .199 overall on the match.
Mars Hill will wrap up play at the Francis Marion Tournament this afternoon. The Lions face Lees-McRae at 5:00 p.m.
