Hochstetler named SAC Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year
Mars Hill volleyball’s Lauren Hochstetler was named 2017 South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the year, as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Mars Hill volleyball's Lauren Hochstetler was named 2017 South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the year, as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.
The Sarasota, Florida native adds another career accomplishment to her resume during her final season. Hochstetler was named All-Conference Honorable Mention along with teammates Rebecca Butler and Sally Anne Johnson, First Team Academic All-District and most recently, Hochstetler made Mars Hill history by being named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® First Team.
Hochstetler holds a 4.00 GPA while studying chemistry with minors in biology and pre-professional studies.
"Lauren is the student-athlete that all coaches are looking to have represent their program," Mars Hill head volleyball coach Tony Fontanelle said about his senior outside hitter. "The words I would use to describe Lauren on the court and in the classroom are: dedicated, goal oriented, passionate, responsible, disciplined and motivated."
The four-year starter, playing in every set throughout her career, placed first on the Lions in 2017 in kills (255) and service aces (29). Captaining Mars Hill over the past three seasons, Hochstetler ends her career with 1,085 kills, 1,447 digs, 124 blocks and 118 aces.
Fontanelle added, "Lauren also finds time to be involved in her community at home, here at Mars Hill and at this moment, she is on her way to Africa."
While at Mars Hill University, Hochstetler serves as a chief marshal, member of Alpha Chi honor society, National Society of Leadership and Success and Forge ministries, while also representing the Chemistry Club as their vice president.
