MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill baseball team (7-11, 2-2 SAC) fell to the Cavaliers of Virginia-Wise (5-8, 1-0 SAC) by a score of 10-3 on Friday afternoon at Don Henderson Field.
The Lions got on the board first, scoring a single run in the first inning of play due to a Zach Weaver triple down the right field line that would score Alex Naran. The Cavaliers responded by scoring seven runs by the end of the fifth inning, thanks in part to a Clay Taylor two-run double and a Kyle Hoeth two-run triple in the right center gap.
The Lions plated two more runs, off of a Kyle Jenkins RBI triple down the right field line and a Chapel Matson RBI single up the middle. Jenkins was the only Lion with multiple hits on the day.
Tristan Camp started the game for the Lions, throwing 2.2 innings and was given the loss. Virginia-Wise's Garrett Stiltner started and threw seven complete innings, striking out seven, and was awarded the win.
Game two of the conference series is set for Saturday, March 5, with first pitch set for 11 a.m. The third and final game of the series will follow.
