Lions place 10th at Catamount Classic
The Mars Hill men’s outdoor track & field team competed in the Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina University this past Friday and Saturday.
CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's outdoor track & field team competed in the Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina University this past Friday and Saturday.
DAY ONE:
Day one of competition was a rainy filled afternoon/evening. Eleven Lions competed in a variety of events throughout the day.
Throwers:
Lee Prescott broke his own school record in the hammer throw with a sixth place throw of 45.94m. Prescott earned three points towards the men's overall team score.
Justus Shelton competed in javelin, placing seventh overall with a throw of 45.71m. Shelton earned two points towards the men's team total.
Andrew Hensley placed 14th in javelin with a throw of 35.92m. Brandon Bailes placed 15th with a throw of 34.97m.
Sprinters:
Jackson McClain placed 11th in the 100m sprint, finishing with his second fastest time on the season, running a time 10.92s.
Ethan Lee competed in both the 100m and 200m sprints. Lee posted a new personal best 11.28s in the 100m, placing 23rd overall. Lee placed 34th in the 200m with a time of 23.39s.
Elijah Swain posted a new personal best 23.27s in the 200m sprint. Swain placed 31st overall.
Distance:
Blake Freeman posted a season best 17:07.88 in the 5000m run. Freeman placed 29th overall.
Jumps:
Jared Benain placed 14th in long jump with a mark of 6.00m.
Jackson McClain placed 15th with a jump of 5.93m.
Overall, the men's team finished day one with a team score of five points
Day 2 Recap
Day 2 was a hot, sunny day for competition. Seven Lions competed throughout the day.
Jumpers:
Jared Benain competed in triple jump. Benain tied his season best with a jump of 14.44m. He placed fourth overall, earning six points for the team.
Levi Higgins placed ninth in high jump with a mark of 1.9m. Higgins earned one point toward the team total.
Throwers:
Ben Goodlett threw an outdoor season best 13.10m in shot put. Goodlett placed 11th overall. Goodlett also competed in discus, placing 12th overall with a throw of 36.95m.
RaQuan Coles threw a season best 35.29m in discus, placing 16th overall in the event.
Lee Prescott competed in both shot put and discus. Prescott placed 14th in shot with a throw of 12.98m and 15th in discus with a throw of 35.37m.
Ashtin Gainey competed in shot put, placing 22nd overall with a throw of 11.06m.
Distance:
Connor Cecil competed in his first collegiate track meet. Cecil placed 35th in the 800m run, finishing in a time of 2:14.35.
The Lions finished 10th overall out of 13 teams with a team score of 12 points.
