Lions compete at L-R Bears Invitational
The Mars Hill men's outdoor track & field team travelled to Lenoir-Rhyne University to compete in the L-R Bears Open.
HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's outdoor track & field team travelled to Lenoir-Rhyne University to compete in the L-R Bears Open.
Several Lions set personal bests and season bests in their respective events.
On the Track:
Sprints
Jackson McClain placed 11th in the 100m sprint with a new personal best 10.72s.
Ethan Lee set personal bests in both the 100m and 200m sprints. Lee placed 28th in the 100m with a time of 11.18s. He placed 17th in the 200m with a time of 22.74s.
Elijah Swain and Thomas Bertelsen both set new personal bests in the 400m sprint. Swain placed 18th with a time of 51.21s. Bertelsen placed 22nd, finishing in a time of 51.58s.
Distance
Connor Cecil set a personal best in the 800m run, finishing in a time of 2:12.93. He placed 29th overall.
Blake Freeman and Hunter Snyder both set personal bests in the 1500m run. Freeman placed 15th with a time of 4:34.63. Snyder placed 21st, finishing in 4:52.35.
In the field:
Jumps
Levi Higgins finished sixth in high jump with a jump of 1.85m.
Jared Benain placed fifth in triple jump with a mark of 13.6m.
Traveon Howell, McClain, and Wanya Martin competed in long jump. Howell placed 14th with a jump of 5.98m. McClain placed 15th with a jump of 5.93m. Martin set a new personal best jump of 5.49m, placing 19th overall.
Throws
In men's shot put, Lee Prescott placed eighth with a throw of 12.92m. Ben Goodlett placed ninth with a throw of 12.86m. Ashtin Gainey threw a new personal best 11.4m. Gainey placed 15th overall.
Goodlett, Prescott, and Justus Shelton all placed in discus. Goodlett placed 13th with a throw of 36.12m. Prescott placed 15th with a throw of 35.71m. Shelton placed 17th with a throw of 34.73m.
Shelton advanced to the finals in javelin, placing fifth overall with a throw of 44.87m. Andrew Hensley placed 15th with a throw of 35.59m.
Prescott advanced to the finals in hammer, placing seventh overall with a throw of 41.88m.
Next up, the Lions travel to Anderson, South Carolina to compete in the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 3rd and 4th.
