Women's Track Sets Four New School Records at Terrier Relays
The Mars Hill track and field teams competed in the Terrier Relays on Saturday with strong performances by student-athletes on both teams.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Mars Hill track and field teams competed in the Terrier Relays on Saturday with strong performances by student-athletes on both teams.
Alexis Montgomery won the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.29 seconds and finished second in the 200 meter dash in a school-record 24.92. Montgomery is three-tenths of a second away from the national qualifying mark in the 200. Jessica Viscusi set a new school and meet record in the 3000 meter Steeplechase, finishing in 9:16. The women's Distance Medley Relay team of Montgomery, Viscusi, Dawn Radford and Faith Trammel broke a school record that had stood for 10 years. The quartet finished in 12:58 and broke the old record by 35 seconds. Savannah Hulbert set a new school record in the Pole Vault, clearing a height of 9.5 feet. Hulbert also set a new personal record in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 15.91. Toccara Jefferies and Shaquavia Harper finished with new personal records in the 400 meter Hurdles, while LeeAnn Farr had new personal best marks in the Discus and Shotput.
On the men's side, Derek Gibson set a new personal and meet record with a victory in the 3000 meter Steeplechase in 9:30. Gibson is four seconds away from qualifying for nationals. Marcus Foster set a new school record in the 400 meter Hurdles, finishing in 55.96. Alex Griggs won the 5000 meters in a meet-record 15:19. Travis Riner won the Discus and Shotput for the second consecutive meet. Mike Koch set a new personal record in the Javelin with a throw of 35 meters.
The track teams make the short trip to Cullowhee next weekend for the WCU Invitational.
