Records Fall in UT Challenge

KNOXVILLE, TENN.- The Mars Hill men's and women's track teams competed in their final meet of the 2014 season Saturday at the UT Challenge.
Alexis Montgomery set a new school record in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.52. Montgomery has reached the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time for the 200 meter dash and will learn of her NCAA national meet fate in the coming days. Jessica Viscusi broke a seven-year-old record by 37 seconds in the 3000 meter run, crossing the line in 10:23. Dawn Radford ran a personal record 2:26 in the 800 meter run, improving by nine seconds on the season.
On the men's side, Derek Gibson set a new school record in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:50. Gibson broke a record that had stood for nine years. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Gibson finished in third place in 9:59.74. Travis Riner finished in seventh place in the shotput with a throw of 52 feet, 8.25 inches.
