Lions felled by Glenville State
The Mars Hill acrobatics & tumbling team (1-2) was defeated by Glenville State (3-2) by a score of 248.49-233.24 Tuesday night inside Chambers Gymnasium.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill acrobatics & tumbling team (1-2) was defeated by Glenville State (3-2) by a score of 248.49-233.24 Tuesday night inside Chambers Gymnasium.
After the compulsory event, Glenville State led by a narrow margin, 34.95-34.70. The Pioneers highest scoring heat was the pyramid, scoring 9.45. The Lions scored an event-high 9.45 in the toss heat.
Glenville State pulled away in the acro event, outscoring the Lions 24.05-18.30 over the three heats. In the three-heat pyramid event, the Pioneers recorded two nines including their highest score of the night, a 9.65 in the inversion pyramid. Mars Hill recorded an 8.9 in the open pyramid, their highest score of the event.
In the toss event, both teams recorded their highest marks in the 450 Salto toss with the Pioneers scoring 9.4 while the Lions posted a score of 8.55.
Of the six tumbling heats, Mars Hill's highest score came in the 6-Element pass as Jana Guardiola scored an 8.5. Bobbie Russell, in the aerial pass, scored an 8.35 for the second highest mark of the event.
The team event saw Glenville State edge the Lions, 88.29-86.24, closing out the win.

Mars Hill returns to action on Friday, March 10 when they face Coker and Limestone in their first tri-meet of the year. The meet is set for a 3 p.m. start.
