Houge nets 17 on road versus No. 20 Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (1-11, 1-11 SAC) was felled by a score of 95-70 versus No. 20 Queens (11-4, 10-3 SAC) on Thursday afternoon.
Tied at nine after the opening 4:42, The Royals reeled off 10 straight points, capped by a Jay'Den Turner three-pointer. Following a three-point play by Nassyr Daniel, Mars Hill cut the deficit down to two, 23-21, with 9:27 remaining in the half. Trading baskets, the Lions once again narrowed the deficit down to two after Reggie Wright's three-pointer with 5:33 left in the half and later closed to within one from an Isayah Johnson layup with less than four minutes to go.
A 9-0 Queens' run extended their lead back to 10 with just over a minute to play as Jerrel Kelly hit the jumper. Mars Hill closed out on a 4-0 run to enter the half down by six.
Turner led all players with 12 points followed by Quan McCluney's 10 in 18 minutes of action. Daniel and Gilyard led the Lions with seven points apiece followed by Johnson's six.
Queens opened the second half on a 9-0 run, building their lead to 15 with just under three minutes played. AJ McKee had five points in the run. After a dunk from Daniel, the Royals followed up with another 7-0 run, ballooning the deficit to 20 with 14:02 remaining.
The Royals continued to add on as McKee ended the frame with 15 of the team's 53 second half points. Michael Houge paced the Lions offense with 12 of his team-high 17 in just eight minutes of second half action.
Daniel and Wright ended the game with 11 points apiece while Johnson added 10.
The Lions return to action on Monday, February 15 when they close out their season series with Lenoir-Rhyne. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
