HARROGATE, TENN. - Stian Sanner's goal in the 72' gave the Mars Hill men's soccer team the offense they would need in a 1-0 victory at Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Mars Hill improves to 3-9-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the South Atlantic Conference. Lincoln Memorial falls to 8-3-1 and 5-3-1.
"This is a very good team win," head coach Gary Hamel said. "The guys did their jobs and we found a way. I'm happy for the boys."
Following a scoreless first half, Thor-Joak Stenberg intercepted a pass in the LMU zone, with the ball deflected to Sanner. Sanner spun around a defender and fired a shot from 30 yards out into the left side of the net for his third goal of the season.
Mars Hill was outshot 26-8, with a 16-4 margin coming in the second half. The Railsplitters had six shots hit the crossbar or post, with two shots striking the iron in the final 15 minutes of the match.
Connor Talbot made two saves in the second half to earn the win. Chris Mitchell made three saves in the opening half. Pedro Ozi made two saves for LMU.
Mars Hill travels to Newberry on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match.
