Briceno breaks two MHU records at SAC Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's swim team sits in fifth after two days of the inaugural South Atlantic Conference Championships.
DAY 1
The quartet of Eduardo Motta, Ronin Pettit, Sailor White, and Sam Brooks placed fourth in the 200 yard medley relay with a time 1:40.93.
Raul Briceno broke his first Mars Hill record in the 1000 yard freestyle, placing third overall with a time 9:24.88.
In the 200 yard IM, Matthew Goslin placed seventh in the B Final, 15th overall, with a time of 1;56.85. In the C Final, Pettit placed seventh, 23rd overall, with a time of 2:06.05.
Thomas Gibson took the B Final of the 50 yard freestyle, finishing ninth overall with a time of 20.71. In the C Final, the trio of Dalton Davidson, Abbot Nixon, and White placed fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively. They finished 21st, 22nd, and 23rd overall.
Closing out day one, the team of White, Motta, Nixon, and Samuel Brooks placed sixth in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.36.
Mars Hill earned 180 points on day one of the SAC Championships.
DAY 2
Thomas Gibson placed third in the B Final of the 100 yard butterfly, 11th overall, with a time 50.59. He placed fourth in the B Final of the 200 yard freestyle, 12th overall, with a time of 1:41.21.
In the 400 yard IM A Final, Raul Briceno placed fifth overall with a time of 4:01.92, setting another MHU record. Matthew Goslin took the C Final, placing 17th overall, with a time of 4:11.44.
Samuel Brooks, in the 200 yard freestyle, placed fifth in the C Final and 21st overall with a time of 1:47.30.
In the 400 yard medley relay, the quartet of Goslin, Gibson, Briceno, and Eduardo Motta placed fourth with a time of 3:30.58.
After two days at the SAC Championships, the Lions sit in fifth with 301 points.
The SAC Championships continue on Friday, February 10.
