Lions place eighth at WCU Catamount Classic
The Mars Hill men's outdoor track & field team traveled to Wester Carolina University to compete in the Catamount Classic. The meet took place over two days, Friday, April 19 - Saturday, April 20.
CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's outdoor track & field team traveled to Wester Carolina University to compete in the Catamount Classic. The meet took place over two days, Friday, April 19 - Saturday, April 20.
Day 1 Highlights
Jackson McClain punched his ticket to the Saturday's 100m finals with an 8th place finish in prelims. McClain established a new personal best, 10.7s. McClain competed in Long Jump as well, placing 12th overall with a season best jump of 6.23m.
Ethan Lee competed in both the 100m and 200m. Lee placed 17th overall in the 100m with a time of 11.10s. Lee established a new personal best in the 200m finishing in a time of 22.4s. Lee placed 13th overall.
The Men's distance crew competed in the 5000m run. All five, Tarus Kipsang, Braxton Cummings, Gabriel Hunt, Brandon Wright, and Kelvin Kiprop, established personal bests. Kipsang led the way finishing in a time of 15:39.05. Kipsang placed 6th overall. Cummings placed 8th wih a time of 15:47.54. Hunt placed 10th with a time of 16:04.72. Wright placed 11th with a time of 16:15. Kiprop finishing 14th with a time of 16:20.12.
Traveon Howell established a new personal best of 6.00m in men's long jump. Howell placed 13th overall.
Antonio Lorenzo set a big personal best in men's hammer throw, throwing nearly 20ft farther than his previous best. Lorenzo placed 11th overall with a throw of 44.9m (147' 4'').
Day 2 Highlights
Jesse Shelton established a new school record in Men's Shot Put with a throw of 17.377m. Shelton placed 2nd overall. Shelton provisionally qualified for NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Nationals with his throw and currently ranks 16th in D2.
Jared Benain took home the event win in Men' Triple Jump. Benain captured the 1st place victory on his final jump of 14.52m.
Ethan Lee and Connor Cecil competed in the men's 400m sprint. Lee established a personal best 50.97s, placing 6th overall. Cecil finished with a new personal best, 53.48s. Cecil placed 9th overall.
Brandon Wright competed in his first collegiate 400m hurdle race. Wright finished 12th overall with a time of 1:00.27.
Jackson McClain placed 7th overall in the finals of the men's 100m with a time of 10.94s.
Justus Shelton placed 7th overall in men's Discus with a new personal best throw of 42.56m.
Jasiah Robinson competed in both Men's Shot Put and Discus, establishing new personal bests in both. Robinson placed 18th in shot put with a throw of 12.40m and 18th in Discus with a throw of 36.12m.
Antonio Lorenzo followed up his day one performance with a new personal best in men's Discus. Lorenzo placed 20th overall with a throw of 35.23m
Lions placed 8th overall as a team with 37 points earned.
Next up, the Lions travel to Boone, North Carolina Saturday, April 27th to compete in the App State Open hosted by Appalachian State University.
