Lions compete at Finn Pincus Invitational
The Mars Hill men's indoor track & field team traveled to Roanoke college over the weekend to compete in the Finn Pincus Invitational.
ROANOKE, Va. - The Mars Hill men's indoor track & field team traveled to Roanoke college over the weekend to compete in the Finn Pincus Invitational. The men competed against 14 other teams across the NCAA DII, DIII, and NAIA levels. Throughout the two-day meet Lion's athletes captured two event wins, set one new school record, set eight new personal records, and established two season bests.
Event Winners:
Jesse Shelton placed first in men's Shot Put with a throw of 16.59m (54' 5.25"). This is Shelton's second time this season taking home the top throw at Roanoke.
Jared Benain captured first in men's Triple Jump with a jump of 14.10m (46' 3.25"). It marked Benain's first event win of the season.
New School Record:
Jesse Shelton broke his own record in men's Weight Throw with a throw of 15.05m (49' 4.5"). Shelton placed seventh overall out of 41 athletes.
Personal Records:
Ethan Lee set a slight PR in the in the men's 60m dash with a time of 7.27s. Lee placed 11th overall on the day.
Traveon Howell set a new PR in the men's 60m dash with a time of 7.53s. Howell placed 35th overall.
Brandon Wright competed in the men's 1000m for the second time this season. Wright placed eighth overall with a time of 2:45.78, a personal best by nearly two seconds.
Braxton Taft Cummings competed in the men's mile. Cummings shaved nine seconds off his personal best, finishing with a time of 4:41.39. Cummings won his heat and placed 17th overall out of 54 runners.
Ashtin Gainey competed in his first meet of the season. Gainey set a new personal record in men's shot put with a throw of 12.48m (40' 11.5''). Gainey placed 17th overall out of 49 throwers.
Antonio Lorenzo and Justus Shelton set new personal records in the weight throw. Lorenzo placed 12th overall with a PR throw of 13.43m (44' 0.75"). Justus Shelton placed 15th overall with a PR throw of 13.06m (42' 10.25").
Season Bests:
Ethan Lee established a season best in the men's 200m with a time of 23.68s. Lee placed 21st overall out of 70 sprinters.
Wanya Martin competed in men's Long Jump. Martin jumped a season best 5.03m. Martin placed 24th overall on the day.
Additional Highlights:
Jackson McClain competed in the men's 60m. Jackson won his heat, advancing to the finals with a time of 6.92s. McClain finished day one with the fastest 60m time of the field.
Gabe Hunt competed in his first collegiate 5000m. Hunt produced the top time for the Lions, finishing 5th overall with a time of 16:45.15.
Jasiah Robinson competed in his first collegiate track meet. Robinson took to the shot put ring, placing 25th overall with a throw of 11.70m.
The Lions compete again on February 3rd when they head to Liberty University to compete in the Liberty Open.
