
Broome, Marasa earn All-SAC honors
Mars Hill’s Ragan Broome and Christiana Marasa earned spots on the 2018 All-South Atlantic Conference Honorable Mention team, as announced by the league Wednesday morning.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Mars Hill's Ragan Broome and Christiana Marasa earned spots on the 2018 All-South Atlantic Conference Honorable Mention team, as announced by the league Wednesday morning.
Broome, a junior from Monroe, North Carolina, led the Lions in every major hitting category, including hits (47), home runs (13), doubles (17) and RBI (40). The shortstop's 13 home runs and .844 slugging percentage place her second in Mars Hill history for most in a single season while her 17 doubles place her third all-time in the program history.
In an 11-3 win over Queens on March 18, Broome had a season-high six RBI, going 2-for-3 with a two-run double and three-run home run. From March 3 to March 18, Broome had an eight-game hitting streak that saw her collect 14 hits, three of which were home runs, and 14 RBI.
Marasa, a junior from Palm City, Florida, notched 27 hits in 68 at-bats for the Lions, batting .397 which led the team. Marasa had four doubles, 16 RBI and one home run, a walk-off three-run shot in the 12-2 win over Newberry on March 30.
On the mound, Marasa went 4-8 with a 5.98 ERA. She recorded 26 strikeouts in 19 appearances. On February 25, Marasa had a complete game, four-hit shutout over Francis Marion where she struck out five batters in the Lions' 2-0 victory.
