
Lions split versus West Liberty, Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Mars Hill softball team (1-6) split their Saturday doubleheader, defeating West Liberty (1-5) by a score of 7-4, but falling to Nova Southeastern (6-2) by a score of 13-0.
GAME ONE: MHU 7, WLU 4
A three-run seventh inning secured the Lions' first win of the season, defeating West Liberty by a score of 7-4.
Tied at four entering the final inning of play, Maia Sholter put the Lions back up with a RBI single, plating Katie Todd. Following a sacrifice fly off the bat of Amber McLaren, Micki Maxson plated an additional insurance run with a single to left, scoring Farley Park.
Jessica Senn's RBI single scored Ella Brooks to open the scoring in the first. Park's sacrifice fly doubled the Lions' lead. Maxson recorded a RBI double while Kendall Bowers added a RBI single later in the frame.
West Liberty began their comeback bid in the bottom of the third as Mallory Rosnick drove in two with a single. In the fourth, Sidney Little reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Alexa Eisemann. They tied the contest up in the bottom of the sixth off of a Riley Conkle RBI single.
The Lions recorded 11 hits in the game with two apiece from Senn, Maxson, and Miranda Marks. Maxson led the Lions with two RBI.
Kayla Gallagher earned the win, allowing one run on two hits in 2.0 innings, striking out two.
GAME TWO: NSU 13, MHU 0 (5 Innings)
The Lions fell to Nova Southeastern by a score of 13-0 in game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
The Sharks led 1-0 after two innings of play. Their offense reeled off nine runs in the third, highlighted by Alexis Smith's three-run triple. In the bottom of the fourth, Smith recorded her second three-run triple of the contest.
She led all players with three hits and six RBI. Samantha Burke also recorded three hits.
Amber McLaren led the Lions with two hits while Miranda Marks added one.
Julian Allen picked up the win, allowing three hits and striking out five in 5.0 innings.
Mars Hill returns to action on Friday, February 17 when they face Southern Wesleyan. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
