
Mars Hill splits SAC series with Anderson
The Mars Hill softball team (6-9, 1-3 SAC) split their Tuesday South Atlantic Conference doubleheader versus Anderson (17-5, 3-1 SAC), taking game one by a score of 9-4, but dropping game two by a score of 9-1.
ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (6-9, 1-3 SAC) split their Tuesday South Atlantic Conference doubleheader versus Anderson (17-5, 3-1 SAC), taking game one by a score of 9-4, but dropping game two by a score of 9-1.
GAME ONE: MHU 9, AU 4
Mars Hill scored five unanswered runs to take game one over the Trojans.
Tied at four entering the top of the fourth, Mars Hill plated four. After an Anderson throwing error allowed Micki Maxson to score the go-ahead run, a Miranda Marks' RBI single to center scored Alyssa Poston to extend their lead to two.
Farley Parks scored two with a single to left center. Another Anderson error allowed Amber McLaren to score the fourth run of the stanza.
In the top of the fifth, Kristyn Ezzo extended the lead to five with a RBI single down the right field line, scoring Katie Todd.
Anderson opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as Olivia Wheeler plated two with a single to center. In the second, the Lions tied the contest with a pair of RBI singles from Maegan Blair and Maxson.
The Lions took their first lead of the contest in the top of the third as Maia Sholter drove in two with a single to right center. In the bottom of the frame, Wheeler tied the contest with a two-run home run to center.
Wheeler led all players with four RBI and was one of four Trojans with two hits. Park led all players with three hits while four Lions added two hits apiece.
Rebekah Howard earned her second win of the season, striking out four in the complete game.
GAME TWO: AU 9, MHU 1 (6 Innings)
Five Anderson home runs powered the Trojans to the game two victory.
After two scoreless innings, the Trojans' Kayson Boatner opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with a solo home run, her first of the contest.
An Anderson error in the top of the fourth allowed the Lions to tie the contest. Later in the frame, Jessica Neadow popped a two-run home run to left field.
In the bottom of the fifth, Boatner hit her second solo shot of the game while in the bottom of the sixth, Neadow collected her fifth RBI of the game with a three-run home run. Lauren Brakovec added a solo home run while a RBI single from Morgan Charter capped off the scoring.
Neadow led all players with five RBI while Charter led all players with three hits. Maia Sholter picked up the lone Mars Hill hit of the contest.
Lane Edgington struck out six, allowing one run on one hit in six innings.
Mars Hill returns to the diamond on Wednesday, March 1 when they host Belmont Abbey in non-conference play. First pitch at Ponder Field is set for 12 p.m.
