Mars Hill competes at Montreat Invitational
The Mars Hill women's outdoor track & field team competed this past Friday and Saturday at the Montreat Invitational hosted by Montreat College.
BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's outdoor track & field team competed this past Friday and Saturday at the Montreat Invitational hosted by Montreat College.
Throwing Events:
Javelin
Mykayla King, Alina Mueller, Keagan Osika, and Lacey Scott represented the Lions on the javelin runway. King and Mueller both advanced to the finals. King placed 4th overall with a throw of 31.10m. Mueller finished 6th with a throw of 28.68m. Osika and Scott both competed in javelin for the first time. Osika finished 12th with a throw of 25.47m while Scott placed 23rd throwing 19.76m.
Shot Put
Bailey Beeman and Cierra Williams took to the ring in shot put. Beeman placed 22nd with a throw of 8.58m. Williams placed 24th with a throw of 8.58m.
Jumping Events:
High Jump
Keagan Osika competed in the women's high jump. Osika finished 5th overall with a jump of 1.39m and earned 4 points toward the women's team total.
Pole Vault
King took to the sky in pole vault, nearly setting a new personal best in the process. King placed 12th overall on the day with a vault of 2.8m.
Long Jump
Mueller led the way with an 11th place finish. Mueller jumped 4.77m on the day. Makayla Rogers jumped a season best 4.57m. Rogers placed 13th overall. Haley Eddinger finished just behind Rogers with a season best jump of 4.56m. Beeman set a new personal best in the event with a jump of 4.44m. Beeman placed 15th overall. Maya Adams placed 20th overall with a jump of 3.95m.
Triple Jump
Eddinger and Rogers took to the runway to compete in triple jump. Eddinger placed 10th overall with a jump of 9.17m while Rogers placed 11th with a jump of 9.16m.
Running Events:
The Mars Hill distance squad fielded two 4x800m relay teams. Mueller, Lindsey Jenkins, Emma Bridges, and Elana Mackey placed 3rd overall with a time of 10:48.94. The group earned six points toward the team total.
Maya Adams, Megan Van Etten, Anahi Reta, and Alyssa Jamerson made up the second team, placing 6th overall finishing with a total time of 11:55.16.
100m
Six Lions competed in the 100m sprint. Osika led the way with a time of 13.04s, placing 14th overall. Elida Taylor competed in her first ever 100m sprint. Taylor placed 20th overall with a time of 13.52s. Scott placed 25th with a time of 14s while Eddinger placed 29th with a time of 14.3s. Rogers finished in a time of 14.73s, placing 31st overall. Tristen Quarles competed in her first outdoor meet of the season. Quarles placed 34th overall with a time of 15.69s.
200m
Osika, Taylor, and Adams represented the women's team in the 200m sprint. Osika finished in 11th place with a time of 26.87s. Taylor sprinted to a season best 27.81s. Maya Adams placed 35th overall with a time of 35.63s.
100m Hurdles
Simone Giggetts hit the track for her first outdoor meet of the season. Giggetts placed 4th overall with a time of 16.19s.
Mueller placed 11th with a time of 18.82s.
1500m
Five Lions competed in the 1500m run. Jenkins led the way for the ladies, finishing 10th overall with a time of 5:08.02. Jamerson and Bridges finished close together with times of 5:38.44 and 5:39.31, respectively. Van Etten finished with a time of 6:00.59 and Reta finished with a time of 6:13.10.
The Lions travel to High Point University to compete in the Vertklasse Meeting on March 31st – April 1st.
