Mars Hill places 12 on All-SAC Teams
The Mars Hill football team landed 12 players on both the All-Mountain Division and All-South Atlantic Conference teams, as released by the league Thursday morning.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Mars Hill football team landed 12 players on both the All-Mountain Division and All-South Atlantic Conference teams, as released by the league Thursday morning.
On the All-Mountain Offense, quarterback JR Martin, running back Jon Gullette, wide receiver Malik Laurent, and offensive lineman Justin Bullock were named to the team.
Martin started all 10 games for the Lions, throwing for 1,928 yards and 16 touchdowns. He completed over 57 percent of his passes and posted a 140.7 efficiency over the year. The Suwanee, Georgia native added 521 yards on the ground, rushing for seven touchdowns.
Gullette, a freshman from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, ran for 869 yards and four touchdowns on the year. He averaged nearly five yards per carry (4.6). He also hauled in 14 passes for 204 yards and two scores.
Laurent, the junior from Lithia Springs, Georgia, led the Lions' receiving core with 49 receptions and 648 yards. He averaged 13.2 yards per catch and scored three times for the Lions.
Defensively, lineman Boris Lewis, linebacker Dexter Fitzpatrick, and defensive back Tristan Rankin were selected to the squad.
Lewis, in nine games this year, racked up 29 tackles, two for loss. He also added one pass breakup.
Placing second on the team, Fitzpatrick totaled 69 tackles in 10 games, registering five sacks, 8.5 tackles for loss, while forcing one fumble and scoring on his lone fumble recovery on the year.
Rankin led all defensive backs for the Lions with 35 tackles in 10 games, returning a fumble 55 yards for a score, and picking off one pass for the year. He led the Lions with 11 pass breakups.
Offensive lineman Leondre Andreas and tight end Beau DeBerry were named to the All-SAC Offense team.
Andreas also won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, given to the best offensive lineman in the league. It marks the first time a Lion has won that award since the 2016 season.
DeBerry was second on the team with 30 receptions, averaging three per game. He racked up 390 yards and tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns with five.
On the All-SAC Defense team was lineman Damipi Lamboni, linebacker Landon Honeycutt, and defensive back Monroe Sanderson.
Lamboni, the senior from Charlotte, North Carolina, led the Lions with 12 sacks on the year and 17 tackles for loss. He forced a team-high two fumbles and totaled 41 tackles over 10 games.
Honeycutt was the statistical champion in tackles per game, averaging 10.6 over 10 games. He led the league with 106 tackles, adding 10.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.
Sanderson, a native of Orlando, Florida, recorded 31 tackles in 10 games, forcing one fumble and picking off one pass. He was second on the team in pass breakups with nine.
