Men's Golf Wins Roanoke Invitational
The Mars Hill men’s golf team erased a four stroke deficit following the first round of play to win the 2014 Roanoke Invitational at Roanoke Country Club.
ROANOKE, Va. – The Mars Hill men's golf team erased a four stroke deficit following the first round of play to win the 2014 Roanoke Invitational at Roanoke Country Club.
Freshman Adam Lumley fired a second round 73 to lead the Lions. At the end of the second round, Mars Hill was tied with Bridgewater, forcing a scorecard playoff based on the 5th man's second day score. As a result, the Lions captured their first team title in recent memory.
Lumley finished in a tie for third place with a combined score of 151. Cole Swezey finished in a tie for fifth place with a two-day 152. Charles Hartzog wrapped up the tournament in seventh place after shooting a three-over-par 74 on Sunday. Chase Dembisky finished in a tie for ninth place with a 154, with Nick Caruso completing the tournament in a tie for 14th with a 156.
Elijah Tackett of Bridgewater was the medalist, shooting a 147 for a one stroke victory over Ferrum's Scott Obenshain.
Mars Hill closes the curtain on the 2013-14 season next week at the South Atlantic Conference Championship, held at Sevierville Golf Club in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
