LAKELAND, Fla. – The Lions' lacrosse team lost at Florida Southern 12-6 Friday night at Bryant Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 0-3 on the season while the Mocs improved to 3-2 overall.
Nathan Stewart led Mars Hill with three goals, nine ground balls and one caused turnover. Ryan Kearney played all 60 minutes in goal for the Lions and made 17 saves.
Cody Dyer led the Mocs with four goals and two assists. Matt Lalli obtained the win in the net for FSU playing the first 45 minutes allowing two goals and making eight saves.
FSU outshot the Lions 49-28. The Mocs edged Mars Hill 38-35 in ground balls and won 12-23 face-offs. Mars Hill was 1-5 on extra-man opportunities while FSU went 2-7 on man-up opportunities.
FSU jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first quarter and then scored six unanswered goals in the second frame to go into the break leading 9-1. The Mocs outscored the Lions 2-1 in the third stanza before Mars Hill won the last period 4-1 to make the final tally 12-6.
Mars Hill will play at Florida Tech on Sunday, February 28. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
