Lions felled by Montevallo

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (1-2) was defeated by Montevallo (1-1) by a score of 11-7 Saturday afternoon.
The Lions entered the second quarter trailing 2-0 off of goals from Zach Laberge and Trevayne Hunter. Mars Hill tied the contest less than six minutes into the frame with two goals from Josh McCallion. Trevor Kennedy and George Yannsens picked up assists on the markers.
The Falcons responded with two goals of their own from Scott Friant and Jackson Klewchuk. An exceptional individual effort from Brandon Woodward pulled the Lions within one, but a late score from Connor Frederick sent Montevallo into the half leading 5-3.
In the third, the teams once again netted three goals apiece. Klewchuk and Laberge scored their second of the contest while Matthew Boas netted his first. Lions' tallies came from Kennedy, Braden Hoskyn, and Cole Pickell.
The Falcons pulled away in the final 15 minutes of play, outscoring the Lions 3-1. Klewchuk scored his third for the hat-trick while Hunter converted his hat-trick, tallying two goals. Austin Stroud scored the lone Mars Hill marker.
Hunter led all players with six points (3g, 3a) while Klewchuk added four (3g, 1a). McCallion (2g), Stroud (1g, 1a), Woodward (1g, 1a), and Kennedy (1g, 1a) each posted two points for Mars Hill.
Alex Egorshin stopped 12 shots for the win while Steven Smith made 11 saves in the loss.
The Lions kickoff their road slate, traveling to Barton on Saturday, February 18. The contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
