HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (2-4, 0-1 SAC) was defeated by No. 6 Lenoir-Rhyne (4-1, 1-0 SAC) by a score of 21-2 Wednesday night.
The teams traded goals in the first 6:41 of the contest with Toron Eccleston and John Hommel scoring for their respective teams. The Bears, following Hommel's goal, would reel off three straight to end the first, including two from Joe Venazio, to lead 4-1 after 15 minutes of play.
Lenoir-Rhyne potted five apiece in the second and third quarters, holding Mars Hill scoreless. Myles Moffat led the Bears with two goals in the second while Eccleston finished off his hat-trick in the third, scoring two.
The Bears outscored Mars Hill 7-1 in the fourth with Brandon Woodward recording the lone Lions' goal.
Eccleston led all players with four points (3g, 1a). Four other Bears recorded three points.
Nolan Hoffman picked up the win, stopping three of four shots faced. Steven Smith was credited with the loss, stopping 15 shots on the night.
The Lions return home on Sunday, March 5 when they host Alabama-Huntsville. The contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
