Lions comeback bid against Trojans falls short

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (3-12, 0-8 SAC) was held off by Anderson (11-5, 5-3 SAC) by a score of 20-16 Saturday afternoon.
After going down 3-0 in the first, Mars Hill struck seven times in the second quarter, including two separate 3-0 runs. Trevor Kennedy scored two goals in the quarter to lead the Lions. George Yanssens, Brandon Woodward, Austin Stroud, Jake Lynch, and AJ Howland netted the other second quarter goals.
In the third, the quartet of Stroud, Yanssens, Woodward, and Kennedy scored for Mars Hill while Cole Ross assisted on three of the markers. The Mars Hill offense continued to roll in the fourth, outscoring the Trojans 5-3 in the final 15 minutes of play.
Goals came from Braden Hoskyn and four straight to end the contest from Zack Gardner-McMinn, Woodward, Stroud, and John Hommel.
Radyn Badraun (4g, 2a) and Logan Gaddis (2g, 4a) led all players with six points. Stroud led the Lions with four points (3g, 1a) followed by three from Kennedy and Woodward (3g) and Ross (3a).
Steven Smith made 21 saves in the game, his fifth 20+ save performance of the year.
Mars Hill concludes the 2023 season on Saturday, April 22 when they host Tusculum on Senior Day. The contest is set for a 3 p.m. start inside Meares Stadium.
