Mars Hill downed by Barton on road

WILSON, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (1-3) was defeated by Barton (2-1) by a score of 9-5 Saturday afternoon on the road.
Barton held the Lions scoreless in the second quarter, outscoring them 4-0. The run proved to be the difference maker as the teams matched each other's production in the first, third, and fourth quarters.
At the end of the first, the teams were tied at one with goals coming from Mark Crawford and Austin Stroud. In the third quarter, both teams netted three goals apiece. Trevor Kennedy struck twice in the frame for the Lions while Stroud picked up his second of the contest.
In the final 15 minutes of play, both teams scored just one goal aside. George Yanssens and Nick Nelson scored the goals for their respective teams.
Crawford led all players with five points (3g, 2a) followed by three from Logan Wheeler (3a). Kennedy (2g), Stroud (1g, 1a), and Yanssens (1g, 1a) led the Lions with two points apiece.
Drew Wheeler stopped 15 shots for the win while Steven Smith made 13 saves in the loss.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, February 25 when they face Young Harris on the road. The contest is set for a 1 p.m. start.
