Lions Finish Second At ASC Championships
CHRISTIANSBURG, VA. – The Mars Hill men’s swim team concluded the Appalachian Swim Conference Championships with a runner-up finish on Saturday evening.
CHRISTIANSBURG, VA. – The Mars Hill men's swim team concluded the Appalachian Swim Conference Championships with a runner-up finish on Saturday evening. The Lions finished the four-day event with a total of 524 points, while Emmanuel (Ga.) College took home the crown with 680.5 points.
During the closing day Matthew Walker was able to etch his name in the Mars Hill record books with a magnificent time of 16:18.11 in the mile (1650 yards) race. Walker finished second in the event overall.
Grant Greenhill and Harrison Butler had impressive performances in the 200 back as Greenhill came in 3rd and Butler touched in 7th. The Lions placed three swimmers in the top-8 of the 200 breast. Andy Disco (5th), Elijah Sears (6th), and Michael Piumelli (8th) all turned in solid times during the event.
Vitor Goncalves placed 8th in the 100 free, while teaming up with Erwin Ortiz, Ryan Martin, and Disco to finish 4th in the 400 free relay.
Keiser University (492.5) finished 3rd, while Wheeling Jesuit (415) and Malone University (278) rounded out the top-5, respectively.
The Lions will return to the pool February 17-18 as they take their talents to the Queens Invite in Charlotte, N.C.
