Mars Hill downs LMC for first win of season
The Mars Hill women’s lacrosse team (1-3) defeated Lees-McRae (0-1) by a score of 15-9 Saturday afternoon for their first win of the season.
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (1-3) defeated Lees-McRae (0-1) by a score of 15-9 Saturday afternoon for their first win of the season.
The Lions were outscored 3-2 in the first 15 minutes of play. Ashley Lindsay and Haley Stallings netted the Mars Hill goals.
In the second quarter, Mars Hill outscored the Bobcats 4-1 with Chandler Werner netting two. Madison Welch scored her first of her career and with under a second remaining in the half, Stallings netted her second to put the Lions up by two.
Mars Hill dominated the third, netting seven goals with both Werner and Samantha Newton scoring two apiece. Lindsay and Stallings added one apiece while Neveah Louden scored the first of her career.
Welch and Newton struck again in the fourth, cementing the victory.
Stallings led the Lions with six points (3g, 3a) followed by five from Newton (3g, 2a). Werner led Mars Hill with four goals.
Lauren Bryner made seven stops in the win.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, February 24 when they face Converse on the road. First draw is set for 12 p.m.
