Lions down Wasps for first SAC win of season

EMORY, Va. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (3-6, 1-3 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry (0-8, 0-3 SAC) by a score of 15-10 Wednesday evening on the road.
After falling behind 2-1 with just over eight minutes to play in the first quarter, the Lions scored six straight goals to end the first 15 minutes up 7-2. Madison Welch and Haley Stallings netted two goals apiece while Chandler Werner, Ashley Lindsay, and Samantha Newton each struck for Mars Hill.
Both teams scored four goals in the second. Lindsay scored two goals to complete her hat-trick for the Lions while Newton and Werner each scored their second of the game. In the third, Newton and Stallings scored in the third to also secure their hat-tricks.
Newton scored her fourth of the contest in the fourth while Welch scored her third goal, the fourth Lion to record a hat-trick on the day.
Newton (4g), Stallings and Lindsay (3g, 1a) led the team with four points apiece. Welch (3g) and Werner (2g, 1a) added three apiece. Lindsay led all players with five draw controls.
Lauren Bryner made eight saves in the win and led all players with six groundballs.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, March 23 when they face Tusculum on the road. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
