Volleyball Charms Cobras in Sweep
The Mars Hill volleyball team swept Coker 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in the DeLoach Center, defeating the Cobras by scores of 25-12, 29-27 and 25-13.
HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Mars Hill volleyball team swept Coker 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in the DeLoach Center, defeating the Cobras by scores of 25-12, 29-27 and 25-13. Mars Hill improves to 6-12 and 5-6 in the South Atlantic Conference while Coker drops to 3-15 and 0-11 in league play.
Rebecca Butler led the Lions with a team season-high 19 kills, with Mary Kate Griffin contributing 10 kills. Lauren Hochstetler and Victoria Kaiser each had eight kills. Butler and Christen Nicholson led the Lion defense with 13 digs, followed by Hochstetler with 10 digs. Fifteen Lions saw action in the victory.
Brooke Closset led Coker with six kills, with Toni Hammer and Megan Hardy contributing five kills. Samantha Celek had 22 digs to lead the Coker defense.
The Lions jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first set and led by no fewer than seven points en route to a 25-12 win. Neither team enjoyed more than a four point lead in the second set. Coker held a 15-12 lead and after a 19-all deadlock, the Cobras went on a 5-0 run to lead 24-19. Mars Hill battled back, tying the set at 27 on a Kaiser kill. Consecutive kills from Hochstetler and Kaiser gave the Lions a hard-fought 29-27 triumph. Mars Hill raced out to a 10-3 lead and hit a season-best .412 in the 25-13 victory.
Mars Hill hosts Carson-Newman on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
