Catawba Defeats Volleyball
The Catawba volleyball team defeated Mars Hill in five sets on Friday night in Goodman Gym, winning the first, third and fifth sets.
SALISBURY, N.C. - The Catawba volleyball team defeated Mars Hill in five sets on Friday night in Goodman Gym, winning the first, third and fifth sets. The Indians won by scores of 15-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-18, 15-9 to improve to 6-16 overall and 4-12 in the South Atlantic Conference. Mars Hill falls to 7-16 and 6-10 in the league.
Rebecca Butler and Mary Kate Griffin each had 16 kills to lead the Lion attack, with Griffin finishing with a team-high three aces. Butler, Lauren Hochstetler and Christen Nicholson each had two aces, with Andie Russell contributing one ace. Nicholson led the team with 22 digs, followed by 17 from Butler and 12 each from Hochstetler, Griffin and Hannah Wilson.
Alex Hopper led Catawba with 27 kills, with Bri Howard and Erin Morant finishing with 15 and 14 kills respectively. McKenzie Garrison had 19 digs, with Hadleigh Loy, Meredith Furr, Kaytee Frabotta and Taylor Houser contributing double digit digs.
Mars Hill travels to Queens tomorrow for a 2 p.m. match.
