Lion Pause (Sept. 4 - Sept. 10)
A recap of Lion Athletics from the week of September 4 - September 10.
Athletic Highlights: September 4th – September 10th
Football: The Mars Hill football team defeated No. 17/20 Wingate, 15-10, in their season-opener. The contest, marred by weather delays, saw the Lions score 15 unanswered second half points, including Tristan Rankin's game-winning 55-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown with just over six minutes to play. Rankin's strong performance earned him SAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Men's Soccer: The Lions went 0-1-1 this past week, falling to Converse, 3-1, and drawing with nationally ranked Coker, 0-0. Aimar Banuls scored his first goal as a Lion in the loss versus the Valkyries.
Women's Soccer: Mars Hill won both of their contests by a score of 1-0, defeating Converse and Coker. Riley Nash scored in the Lions' win over Converse while Samantha Swinson netted her first career goal against the Cobras in their SAC opener. Camryn Miller has already tied her career-high with three shutouts.
Volleyball: The Lions picked up two victories this weekend, dropping only one set. Mars Hill swept Lees-McRae on Friday and redeemed their lone loss of the season, taking down King in four sets that saw Jada Cannon record a season-high 14 kills.
