Athletic Highlights: January 29th – February 4th
Men's Basketball: The Lions went 0-2 this past week, falling to Tusculum and UVA Wise. Mars Hill hosts Carson-Newman in their penultimate home game on Wednesday, February 7 when they face Carson-Newman. They then travel to Harrogate, Tennessee to face Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, February 10.
Women's Basketball: Mars Hill defeated both Tusculum and UVA Wise this past week, eclipsing double-digit wins in a season for the first time in eight years. Maddie Gillie tied a school record with nine three-pointers versus the Pioneers en route to setting a new a career-high with 32 points. Following a 31-point outing versus the Cavaliers that saw her eclipse the 1,000 career point mark, Gillie was named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Mars Hill hosts Carson-Newman on Wednesday night and take on Lincoln Memorial this Saturday.
Baseball: The Lions opened the season on the road in North Georgia, taking game three of the series for their first win of the season. They face Lee this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader on the road Saturday, February 10 and wrapping up with a single game on Sunday, February 11.
Softball: Mars Hill opened the season going 4-2 at the Valkyrie Classic, held in Duncan, South Carolina. The Lions swept Converse and split their two games with St. Thomas Aquinas and Lynn. The Lions jump back into tournament play as they face UNC Pembroke and Shaw this weekend, on both Saturday and Sunday.
Men's Lacrosse: The Lions fell to Belmont Abbey by a score of 12-7 Friday evening on the road. Brandon Woodward and George Yanssens each netted two goals apiece. They open home competition on Saturday, February 10 when they host Virginia State University.
Women's Lacrosse: Mars Hill opened their season against Young Harris on Saturday, February 3, falling by a score of 24-3. They return to action on Saturday, February 10 when they travel to face Emmanuel.
Men's Tennis: The Lions fell to Belmont Abbey in their spring opener, 7-0, this past Thursday. They open home action against Converse on Wednesday, February 7.
Women's Tennis: Mars Hill was defeated by Belmont Abbey this past Thursday in their spring opener, 5-2. Elana Mackey and Lilah Dean won their respective flights. Mars Hill hosts Converse in their home opener on Wednesday, February 7.
Men's Indoor Track & Field: The Lions competed in the Liberty Open with several finalists, including Jesse Shelton placing third overall in the shot put. Jared Benain placed fourth in the triple jump. The Lions next compete in the Tryon International College Opener on Tuesday, February 6.
Women's Indoor Track & Field: Mars Hill competed in the Liberty Open this past weekend with several athletes posting personal bests in their respective events. Bailey Beeman placed eighth in the shot put while Haley Eddinger finished 11th in the pole vault. Makayla Rogers finished seventh in the high jump. The Lions next compete in the Tryon International College Opener on Tuesday, February 6.
