Lions drop Saturday DH versus L-R, earn split
The Mars Hill baseball team (12-12, 9-11 SAC) was swept on Saturday afternoon versus Lenoir-Rhyne (16-9, 13-7) by scores of 12-3 and 11-1.

HICKORY, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (12-12, 9-11 SAC) was swept on Saturday afternoon versus Lenoir-Rhyne (16-9, 13-7) by scores of 12-3 and 11-1.
GAME ONE: L-R 12, MHU 3
Lenoir-Rhyne's bats came alive in the third game of the series, scoring 11 runs in the first three innings, leading the Bears to their first win of the series.
Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Matt Mackey expanded the gap with a three-run home run to left field. Nick Clarno's two-run single in the bottom of the second saw the Bears lead 6-0 entering the third.
Tyler Lala put the Lions on the board in the top of the third with a RBI single that plated Jordan Lathe. Lenoir-Rhyne plated five in the bottom of the third, highlighted by Clarno's RBI double that plated Will Jones.
In the top of the fourth, the Lions scored two runs off of a Bears' error, plating Austin Treadway and Kyle Jenkins .
Five Bears recorded multiple hits while Mackey led all players with four RBI.
Andrew Patrick picked up the win, allowing three runs on three hits in four innings pitched while striking out six.
GAME TWO: L-R 11, MHU 1 (7 Innings)
The Bears used a seven-run fifth inning to complete the Saturday sweep and earn a split of the series.
Entering the bottom of the fifth up 3-1, Lenoir-Rhyne plated seven runs, highlighted by RBI singles from Drue Galassi, Bryce Stober, and David Bell.
In the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded, Andy Lopez drew a walk, providing the Bears the 10-run advantage.
E.J. Ranel hit a solo home run to put the Bears up 2-0 at the end of the first. Hunter Holland scored the Lions' lone run, a solo home run in the top of the second.
Stober led all players with three hits and two RBI. Ranel and Bell each recorded two hits. Holland led the Lions with two hits.
Joshua Lanham picked up the win, allowing one run on two hits in six innings pitched, striking out eight.
The Lions return to action in non-conference play on Tuesday, March 30 when they face Young Harris on the road. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
