Lions downed by Railsplitters at home
The Mars Hill men’s soccer team (5-4-0, 2-3-0 SAC) were defeated 2-0 by Lincoln Memorial (4-2-2, 2-1-1 SAC) Wednesday night at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill men's soccer team (5-4-0, 2-3-0 SAC) were defeated 2-0 by Lincoln Memorial (4-2-2, 2-1-1 SAC) Wednesday night at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
The Railsplitters took the early 1-0 lead with a goal from Edwin Vaas. With the ball loose inside the box, Vaas blistered a shot off the hand of the diving Mars Hill goalkeeper Brian Salzman. The ball landed just inside the crossbar for his first tally of the year.
The Lions pressured late in the second half with an excellent header attempt from Oscar Mitchell that was saved by Caleb Cothrin. Lincoln Memorial sealed the Lions' fate with a goal from Jorge Melcar with two seconds remaining in the game to earn their fourth win of the season.
Sebastian Bertilsson attempted a team-high three shots on the night with one finding its way on cage. Victor Peres had a game-high five shots on goal.
Cothrin made four saves in the win while Salzman made eight in the loss.
Mars Hill returns to action Saturday, October 6th when they take on Coker on the road. The match is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start time.
