Three Lions named to All-SAC Honorable Mention team
Mars Hill men's soccer forward Sebastian Bertilsson and defenders Jeppe Christensen and Oscar Mitchell were named to the All-SAC honorable mention team as announced by the league Thursday morning.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens University of Charlotte forward Edmundo Robinson was voted as the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year, while Lenoir-Rhyne University defender Marcos Enriquez was named the inaugural SAC Defensive Player of the Year. Lenoir-Rhyne's Carles Montoliu Lobo was named SAC Freshman of the Year, and Lenoir-Rhyne head coach Jack Winter was voted as the Coach of the Year, the conference announced today.
Robinson, a Stone Mountain, Ga. native, finished the regular season as a league leader in every offensive category. He was fourth in goals with eight, second in assists with six and third in points with 22. The senior was named SAC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts on Oct. 23, and he helped lead the Royals to a share of the 2018 SAC Regular Season Title for the first time since 2013.
Enriquez, a senior from Pamplona, Spain, anchored the Lenoir-Rhyne defense and helped guide the Bears to their first-ever SAC Regular Season Title. He was a key member of a defensive unit that allowed only 24 goals in 16 matches with three shut out victories. He also chipped in on the offensive side of the ball, scoring a goal with an assist for three points.
Montoliu Lobo, a freshman midfielder from Valencia, Spain, was an instrumental part of the Bears regular season championship. He played in all 16 games for the Bears starting 15, recording an assist and six shots, three of which were on goal.
Winter led the Bears to a 10-5 overall record, going 7-3 in the SAC, earning the program's first-ever SAC Regular Season Championship. His Bears led the league in scoring with 41 goals, allowing just 24 goals on the defensive side of the ball. Lenoir-Rhyne is currently ranked No. 4 in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region.
Joining Robinson and Enriquez on the All-SAC First Team were forwards Victor Peres of Lincoln Memorial, Alberto Morales of Queens and Tobias Solem Karlsen of Carson-Newman.
The first team midfielders were Felipe De Sousa of Lincoln Memorial, Ignacio De goya and Victor Cascon of Lenoir-Rhyne and Elliott Cutts of Wingate.
On defense, Pedro Oliveria and Michael Hornsby of Queens and Alan Brandao of Lincoln Memorial were named to the first team, while Wingate's Pablo Iara was named the first team goalkeeper.
