Lions Host ”Play 4Kay” This Saturday
MARS HILL, N.C.-- The Mars Hill women's basketball team will participate in the Play 4Kay initiative when they host South Atlantic Conference rival Brevard on Saturday, Feb. 9.
The Play 4Kay initiative was founded in 2007 to foster the development of breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses and in the community. Play 4Kay is named for legendary women's basketball coach Kay Yow, who passed away Jan. 24, 2009 after a public and courageous battle with cancer. All ten women's basketball teams in the South Atlantic Conference will host events in support of the initiative. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the contest to show support for the initiative.
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is the official charity of the Play 4Kay initiative. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund, in partnership with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.
