Lions Fall at No. 7 Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Mars Hill women's basketball team dropped a 71-41 contest at No. 7 Limestone on Saturday afternoon inside the Timken Center. The Lions fall to 1-3 overall while LC improves to 2-1 on the season.
Freshman forward Jenny Edwards posted a career-high 14 points to lead the Blue and Gold offensively, while Aliyah Farmer had another monstrous game on the boards, pulling down a game and career-high 17. Farmer teamed with Sydney Comer and Madison Ervin, all three chipping in eight points each.
The Lions shot just 11-56 from the field (19.6%), but was able to knock down 80% of their free throws (16-20). Mars Hill held a slight 46-45 advantage on the boards.
Limestone controlled the pace early, racing out to a 5-0 lead, but the Lions responded with a 5-2 run to cut the deficit to 7-5 following a three by Comer at the 7:49 mark of the opening period. An 11-1 run by the Saints gave them their first double-digit lead of the game at 18-8. The Saints would lead 23-12 after one.
The second quarter started with a back-and-forth affair. With the score at 28-17, LC used a 7-2 run to take its biggest lead (35-19) into the locker room. That lead grew larger as Limestone outscored Mars Hill 25-11 in the third quarter to take a commanding 60-30 lead into the final frame. That margin remained intact throughout the remainder of the game as both teams scored 11 points in the fourth and the Saints collected the 71-41 win.
Jasmine Kearse led the Saints with 14 points, but shot only 5-for-18 from the field and 4-of-12 from three. Keidra Smith and Jayla Morrow chipped in 12 each for Limestone.
Mars Hill will return to action on Tuesday, November 22 as they play host to Anderson University, opening the South Atlantic Conference portion of the schedule. The contest is set to begin at 6 p.m.
