Mars Hill started the contest with a 4-0 lead following back-to-back baskets by Farmer. However, that lead did not last long as Anderson used a massive 30-6 run over the remainder of the period to control a 30-11 lead after one. The Trojans used the long ball to establish the comfortable margin, at one point connecting on four in a row from behind the arc.
The second quarter was more evenly contested as both teams traded baskets over the initial four minutes. Another three-ball by AU gave the Trojans a 24-point lead (41-17). That lead grew to as many as 32 (52-20) going into halftime. Mars Hill was faced with a five minute scoring drought to close out the first half.
Quarter number three was much like the first two with Anderson continuing to pad its lead, outscoring the Lions 22-10 over 10 minutes to cruise into the final period with a 74-30 advantage. A 12-2 run to open the fourth ballooned the lead to a whopping 54 points (86-32). From that point the Trojans rolled to an easy 98-38 win.
Alexy Mollenhauer scored a game-high 25 points for the Trojans, who shot 54.2% (39-72) from the field, including 15 three-pointers. Anderson beat the Lions on the boards 49-35.
Mars Hill will return to the court on Saturday, January 28 as they play host to Catawba in a South Atlantic Conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
