Boggs records double-double versus Catawba

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (1-18, 0-14 SAC) was defeated by Catawba (11-10, 6-8 SAC), 82-61, inside Stanford Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Indians gained the upper hand early in the game, opening on an 8-0 run, including back-to-back three-pointers from Emily Phillips. Tatum Boggs knocked down a three of her own to slow Catawba momentarily before they put together another 8-0 run, going up 16-3 with under five minutes to play in the first frame. Mars Hill outscored Catawba 10-9 for the remainder of the quarter and trailed by 12 entering the second stanza.
Layups by Mariah Johnson and Baylea Loven pulled Mars Hill within eight, however, the Indians would go on to score 10 of the next 12 points and go up 35-19 with under four minutes left in the half. Madison Hallman had nine of the points. The Indians closed out the half on a 12-8 run to end the first half of play up 45-27.
Talia Barnes led all players with 13 points in the half. Johnson led the Lions with 11 points.
With just over four minutes played in the half, Catawba maintained their 19-point lead until an 8-0 run in the latter stages of the half provided them a 27-point advantage with less than three minutes remaining in the frame. The Lions bit into the lead, but entered the fourth quarter down by 24 points.
The Lions found themselves down by 30, but a 7-0 run closed the gap to 23 with under five minutes left in regulation. Down the stretch, the Lions were able to close within 18 points, but a late three-pointer from Kaitlin Stevenson bumped the Indians lead back to 21 as they came away with the 82-61 win.
Barnes led all players with 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the double-double. Hallman ended the game with 17 points and five assists.
Johnson scored a team-high 21 points for Mars Hill. Boggs ended the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double.
The Lions host Tusculum on Wednesday, February 13th inside Stanford Arena at 6 p.m. on Play4Kay night.
