Women's Golf Looks for Strong Finish at SAC Championship

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's golf team will compete in the South Atlantic Conference championship at Sevierville Golf Club beginning on Sunday.
This season, Mars Hill has finished in the top ten in six tournaments, including a win at the Anderson Invitational in September. The Lions were the runner-up at the Bulldog Spring Invitational in mid March.
"This has been a real roller coaster season for us," said head coach Ed Hoffmeyer. "I am so proud of the four young ladies who have hung in there all season. While we may be small in numbers, we are mighty in spirit."
Senior Jacqueline McCormick has been the lowest scoring player in seven of nine tournaments this season, including a sixth place finish at the Bulldog Spring Invitational.
"Jacqueline has been our most consistent player all year," said Hoffmeyer. "Her leadership will truly be missed next year. For the last two and a half years I have been able to count on her to come through with a solid round time and time again."
The Lions appear to be in good shape for the future, as sophomores Sarah Johnson and Victoria Barrett have each had one low tournament for the Lions, with Barrett signing the lowest scorecard at the Cliffs Intercollegiate and Johnson duplicating the feat at the McAmis Invitational.
"Sarah and Victoria have played their best golf the last two weeks and have a chance to be competitive this weekend," Hoffmeyer said. "Lindsey Ball proved last weekend at Tusculum that she is rounding into form and should continue to show progress. All three have worked hard on their short games and should be rewarded with improved scoring."
The first round of the tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. Click here for tee times.
