Foust, Lions trounce Warriors for first win of season

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (1-1) defeated Southern Wesleyan (0-2) by a score of 15-5 Monday night for their first win of the 2021 season.
Despite going down 1-0 in the opening minute, the Lions reeled off six straight goals with Kiersten Foust netting two in the run. She picked up an assist on the Lions fifth goal of the contest from the stick of Maria Fabrizio.
Foust completed her hat-trick with 1:19 left in the half, putting Mars Hill up 9-2 at the end of 30 minutes. Samantha Newton and Sydney Joyce each added two goals apiece.
Mars Hill carried over the momentum, scoring the first four goals of the second half. Foust scored twice while Joyce added a goal and an assist.
Tabitha Beecher struck twice in the second half for the Warriors, completing her hat-trick.
Foust led all players with seven points (6g, 1a) on the night followed by Joyce (3g, 1a) and Fabrizio's four points apiece (2g, 2a).
Gini Joy and Alexandria Holleran split time in the cage, allowing two and three goals, respectively. Both made four saves apiece.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, February 20 when they take to the road to face Lander. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
