Joyce, Lions down Cobras in overtime

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (2-6, 1-5 SAC) downed Coker (1-6, 0-5 SAC) by a score of 15-14 in overtime on Sunday afternoon.
Sydney Joyce, with her game-high seventh goal, sent the Lions home with their first victory in South Atlantic Conference play, converting a free position with 1:38 remaining in the frame.
Kiersten Foust sent the game into overtime with just three seconds remaining in regulation. She netted her third goal of the game off of a free position to tie the contest at 14.
Mars Hill jumped out to an early 6-0 start in the first half with Joyce and Alexa Tazzetta each netting two apiece. Maria Fabrizio and Carissa Watson also scored in the run. The Cobras cut the lead in half with two goals from Hannah Shuren and one from Gabby Jessup before the Lions rebuilt their five-goal advantage with goals from Foust and Tazzetta. Coker narrowed the deficit down to four, outscoring the Lions 2-1 in the final 2:19 of the first.
The Cobras stormed out of halftime, scoring six of the first seven goals to tie the game at 10 with 17:15 remaining in the half. Alyssa Baronella-O'Toole's fourth goal of the half provided the Cobras their first lead of the contest. The teams traded goals for the remaining 14:55.
Joyce led all players with eight points (7g, 1a) followed by Tazzetta's four (3g, 1a). Foust ended the day with three goals and a team-high five draw controls. Shuren led the Cobras with seven points (5g, 2a) followed by Baronella-O'Toole's four goals.
Gini Joy made nine saves for the win. Alexandria Holleran stopped seven shots in 30 minutes of play.
Mars Hill returns to action on Tuesday, March 30 when they take on UVA Wise on the road. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
